Insurance Law: Doctrines and Principles (Third Edition)

Insurance Law: Doctrines and Principles (Third Edition) Review

Insurance Law: Doctrines and Principles is a useful, up-to-date, and affordable textbook, providing a detailed examination of the developing law of insurance and combining exposition of the law with critical analysis. The book is designed with the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students in mind. The text is enhanced by extensive citations to UK case law and academic commentaries, making the book ideal for students, scholars, and practitioners alike. Following the widely acclaimed first and second editions, this third edition reflects the many changes that have occurred in the law of insurance since 2005. The book is divided into two parts. Part I considers the regulation of insurance business and the general principles underlying the law of insurance contracts. Part II examines the way in which these principles are shaped by the particular insurance context in which they operate. The book is readable and authoritative, with a sound grasp of the realities of insurance practice. It is well sourced and generous with supplementary points. The first edition was cited with approval by the Supreme Court of Canada in Oldfield v Transamerica Life Insurance Co of Canada (2002).

This book discusses how to go about handling and settling a personal injury case with an insurance company. Some smaller personal injury cases can, in fact, be resolved without the help of an attorney. Stuart A. Carpey discusses what type of cases might fit into that category, and provides guidance in how to go about the process. There are risks, however, in trying to deal with the insurance company without an attorney, and those risks are thoroughly discussed in this book. This book also provides the reader with the step by step series of actions that must be taken to successfully collect the evidence needed to preserve evidence in the personal injury case and to prove injuries, the steps needed to present the case to the insurance company, the basic steps entailed in the negotiation process, as well as when an attorney is required to assist in your case, and why.

From the supplier: Auto insurance companies can save about bil annually by using preferred provider organizations in the adjustment and repair of auto physical damage losses. Under the preferred provider arrangement, insurers outsource the adjustment and repair of automobiles to pre-screened repair shops. The shop prepares the adjustment report, which is then audited electronically. The shop also performs the repairs according to the insurers guidelines. This automated, streamlined organization can cut the claims time by half.
