From the supplier: Hertz Corp was authorized to operate as a self-insurer in Minnesota in line with the terms of the state No-Fault Automobile Insurance Act. However, its contract provided that the firm would be responsible for auto liability claims arising out of the rental only if the renter/operator of the rented vehicle does not have other auto liability insurance. The Minnesota Supreme Court has ruled in Hertz Corp v. State Farm Mutual Insurance Co deciding that Hertz cannot by contract make a car renter's auto insurance policy solely responsible for accident coverage.

Vulture Culture: Dirty Deals, Unpaid Claims, and the Coming Collapse of the Insurance Industry

Vulture Culture: Dirty Deals, Unpaid Claims, and the Coming Collapse of the Insurance Industry Review

We all dutifully write out checks for insurance coverage each month, assuming that if the worst should occur, we'll be protected financially. But what we don't know about the insurance business could - and most probably will - hurt us. "Vulture Culture" is a hard-hitting expose of the sorry state of the industry, from tales of rampant, widespread corruption to inconsistent state regulations and the inability - and often unwillingness - of the federal government to protect the rights of denied claimants. The book takes readers into a world of bid-rigging, fraudulent commissions, and secret payoffs, revealing shocking abuses and ominous new trends. Readers will hear about a rogue's gallery of shady executives, including a CEO whose massive claim denial schemes eventually got him fired ...at great cost to consumers. From the Hurricane Katrina fiasco of unpaid claims, to a revolving door in which former insurance executives regulate their own industry before returning to it themselves, this is a shocking account of an industry on the brink of collapse, and what must be done to fix it before it's too late.

Modelling losses using an exponential-inverse Gaussian distribution [An article from: Insurance Mathematics and Economics] Review

This digital document is a journal article from Insurance Mathematics and Economics, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
An exponential-inverse Gaussian distribution is used to model the claim size distribution. The distribution has shorter tails than the Pareto distribution and it is considered as a plausible model for data without large tails. We present the model allowing for covariates. Properties of the model are discussed. An EM algorithm is provided to fit the model. The algorithm is quite simple and programmable without need for any special functions. The model can be seen as a random effect model for exponential survival times regression. A real data application using a car-insurance company portfolio data is provided.

The Consumer Awareness Guide to Buying Car Insurance in Georgia

The Consumer Awareness Guide to Buying Car Insurance in Georgia Review

Ty Wilson is a personal injury attorney who has written a guide to purchasing automobile accident insurance in Georgia, including uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Mr. Wilson believes that the insurance companies have conspired to keep consumers "in the dark" about uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage-both of which can make a significant difference in a serious accident in which litigation becomes necessary.

Wilson presents scenarios to show how quickly the minimum auto insurance coverage can run out in the case of a serious injury. For example, he describes a case in which a 37-year-old woman on a motorcycle was critically injured in a collision with a driver who was talking on a cell phone. The at-fault driver had Georgia minimum insurance coverage and very few assets, so was essentially "judgment-proof." His insurance coverage wasn't enough to cover even one week of the injured motorcyclist's hospitalization. The plaintiff in this case thought she had "full coverage," but her ,000 in uninsured motorist coverage wasn't enough to cover the series of MRIs she needed once she got out of the hospital. She suffered further set-backs because of lost wages, but had no legal recourse since the defendant had no assets. If she'd had better UM/UIM coverage, it would have helped her.

Wilson recommends readers buy as much as they can afford- and suggests 0,000. He gives rate quotes from a few different insurance companies to show that the significant increase in coverage over the legal minimum does not cost significantly more in premiums.

Ten Questions - The Insider's Guide to Saving Money on Auto Insurance - Hidden Discounts Revealed Review

How much do you pay for your auto insurance? If you are reading this, the answer is most likely "too much!" You are looking for information that will help you save your hard-earned dollars, and you have found it.

Ten Questions is not a book for "dummies," but it is an easy to use, half-hour read, specifically designed to help save you money.

It is absolutely guaranteed to do just that. If you do not find any benefit in Ten Questions, (no matter which version you buy) simply return it for a full refund.

Chapter One, "Risk" will help you understand what factors are used to determine your rating "tier," and how to improve them. Much of that determination is made through your answers to a series of questions you will be asked, either online, or in person by an agent. These are the "Ten Questions" referred to in the title.

Chapter Two, "Discounts" contains a detailed description of nearly every available auto insurance discount, and how to obtain them. A single 5% discount that you have been missing each policy term is costing you far more than this guide will.

Chapter Three, "Coverages" is a comprehensive explanation of nearly every available auto insurance coverage, including what each one does, (and does not do) for you, and how to the determine the proper balance of cost versus benefit when choosing them.

Chapter Four, "Sample Quote Process," is your ultimate weapon in getting your new policy, because it details an actual phone quote in real time, along with the "correct" answers to the "Ten Questions." Knowledge is power, and this guide is a very powerful tool that you will be able to use as long as you are driving and insuring vehicles.

Advanced Topics is new for 2012, and this section includes "Youthful Driver Strategies," and "State Specific Information," such as a layman's explanation of so-called "No-Fault" coverages, and "Full," versus "Limited" Tort.

The Appendix contains all the technical terms that are used in the guide, to help you understand the "trade talk" in the auto insurance industry.

This guide will save you money in several ways, including:
  • It will help you find and qualify for discounts.
  • It will show you how to improve your rating tier, and lower your "base rate."
  • It will help you allocate your premium dollars more effectively, so that you get the best coverage at the best price.
Find out what the insurance companies don't want you to know, like the fact that you can switch carriers any time you want, as often as you want. You do not have to wait until your current policy renews in order to do so. Ten Questions isn't about getting the cheapest policy at the cheapest price: It's about getting the best policy at the best price.

Learn the answers to the Ten Questions today, and get a better policy for less money, tomorrow.
